The news updates from the geeks eye

People are fucking idiots. Let me tell you why. Recently I went and saw Aliens vs. Predator. Now let me just tell you, as you can probably tell from all the stuff I post here, that I am a fucking geek. I mean it. I am hardcore all up in the business as much as I can possibly be. When I heard that AVP was coming out I got wet. I was so excited to see this movie. I have been a huge fan for years and years. I knew that there was no way that they were going to make an Oscar winning movie. Not with a g33kflick like this. So, when I walked into the theatre I knew that I wasn't going to see the Godfather. I knew I wasn't going to see a movie that was going to win any awards. I knew, as a fan, that the actors would be lucky if they remembered their lines, that the story was going to lack, and that for the first time Aliens and Predators were going to be on the screen together. And much bloodshed was going to be had. Keeping that in mind I walked out of that theatre a happy, happy little fanboy. Yet, all I have been seeing online in the past couple of days are people bitching and complaining about those very things that I expected to be bad. Come on people. You are walking into a place and industry that thrives on the suspension of disbelief. Did you honestly expect to walk in to the theatre and see Lance Henrickson give the performance of his life? Did you honestly expect to walk out of that theatre having all your questions about both races answered? Did you honestly believe that the Alien that popped out of the Predators chest at the end was a hybrid?

Ok so here's the deal. People out there now a days are so harshly overly critical on movies that don't deserve to be overly criticized that it's ridiculous. I had to learn this lesson the hard way. Before the first X-Men came out I was dead set against Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine. I was naming off everything wrong about that equation to any that would hear it anytime of the day. But you know what? When I walked out of the theatre I was smiling ear to ear. Not because Hugh Jackman did such a great job no. But because I saw one, if not the, of my childhood hero's on the big screen. I learned that you have to take stock in what you are seeing before you see it. If you walked into Jason Vs. Freddy expecting a grand film you walked out disappointed. If you walked in to Armageddon expecting the world to explode and everyone to die then you were disappointed. If you walk in to a comic book movie expecting them to nail every single tiny miniscule fact of that character then you are disappointed. If you go see a Harry Potter movie with adult expectations then you are disappointed. That's where the mistake lies people. Think about what you are seeing. Think to yourself "Hey Harry Potter is a movie based off of children's books, so the movie will be aimed at that age group" or "There is no way in hell that they can fit every single bad guy in the world and get their origins correct into a 2 hour movie". When I walked into I,Robot I knew for a fact that it would have very little to do with the book because when was the last time you saw a book to film translation come out correct. Maybe I have a leg up on some people. Maybe growing up being a Stephen King fan gave me an edge, because we know only 3 or 4 of his movies were any good. But, I know that the more honest I am to myself the less disappointed I will be. And, If that movie turns out to blow all the lowed expectations I have out of the water then I will be even more pleased. Know what you are going to see. Don't think every single mob movie will be as good as The Godfather. Have knowledge and a little give when it comes to the film industry. Why? Because movies are like religions. Everyone has their own opinion about it so you'll be hard fought to find someone with the same visions as you. If you think they are going to fuck up a comic book so bad that it will piss you off then don't go see it. I knew Punisher was going to be bad. I knew Daredevil was going to blow. I knew any Batman after Tim Burton would make me cringe. I knew that Jay and Silent Bob would be infested with dick, weed and fart jokes.I knew that. And I made my choices and set my expectations accordingly and wasn't surprised to be disappointed or elated.

Lastly, and this is more advice for ye. If you know a movie isn't going to be as great as you hoped but want to see it anyway, make an adventure of it. When I saw Scary Movie 3 I went to a drive-in with a bunch of my friends and had a blast. The fun I had with the group more than made up for the crappy tired out story lines. And that's what makes me smile when I think of the movie. Do the same. Go to a geekfest movie or shitty b-rated horror flick with some friends and have fun with the movie. Make a night of it. Or save yourself some dough and heartache and see a matinee or DVD of it. This is just my opinion.
